A Good Value

My loved one finds that the staff are somewhat difficult due to communication issues. I like the traditional care center that is on the campus. It is absolutely wonderful and I have recommended this community to several people. It does not live up up to the transitional care but it is good.

Walker Methodist at Westwood Ridge

From the very beginning there was no condescending attitude when we had questions, they were very open to us calling them with any questions. Even now when we have a question or concern they are more then willing to help out. The staff and other residents here are so friendly, and accommodating. The community is set up very nice. With it being in the West Saint Paul area, it is by a bunch of trees and shopping areas.

A very safe environment

Walker Methodist community is in a good location and the structure is nice. The cleanliness and friendliness of the staff really stood out to me. The value for cost is good, and it is just a beautiful environment for living. During the pandemic they disinfected everything constantly, and were always checking the residents and visitors temperatures.

I would recommend Walker Methodist at Westwood Ridge

I was hoping when my loved one moved in that there would be some help available, like a resident ambassador who spent time with the new residents to help them get used to everting. My loved one still doesn't know where anything is, but that could be on her as well. It's pretty daunting to move into a new place and be left on your own, even in independent living. It would be nice to have a buddy at first to get to know the ropes. But the staff have been great. They're very friendly and informative. She really likes her apartment. Out of all the places that we looked at, the size is the most generous for a 1-bedroom. It's nice that the doorways are wide. She has a step-in shower, which is nice. I would definitely recommend them to other families.

We chose Walker Methodist because they were close to his home and also we had talked to others who had been there and they were very happy with it as well. The room sizes are very big and spacious. Walker Methodist Westwood Ridge is a special place. The wonderful residents are the heart and soul of the community. They are supported by a dedicated team of people that are truly committed to making Walker the best place to live and work. The campus is wooded making for beautiful views. Walking paths are easily accessible from both buildings, the full time life enrichment team provide a variety of opportunities for socialization and fun, the care givers do an outstanding job and are kind and compassionate, the fitness specialist is outstanding, and the food exceptional. Not bad, but definitely not the best

I've been here at Westwood ridge now for going on my fifth week. At first the service was great, but as they got more patients it seems like staff hasn't increased to maintain that high level of service. I often find myself waiting over 15 minutes when I hit the call button and I'm often left hooked up to an IV for hours after it's completed to a point where I have to unhook myself. I've had to do my own wound changes as the nurse simply left for the day and decided that I didn't need to have it changed. They refuse to purchase the necessary supplies to complete a proper wound change. They have the cheapest tape and are simply unwilling to buy better tape. Bottom line... I would keep looking for a facility that cares more about the patient then the bottom line.

Real life influences everything

I would like to believe COVID restrictions tainted my review of the facility. Please keep that in mind as you read this. I was excited about Walker, when I toured the Assisted Living apartments and thought their activities would be great for Mom. Then COVID hit and everything was on lock down, and Mom declined significantly during isolation. All the reasons for picking Walker were gone due to COVID. As restrictions were eased Mom had a fall, and it has been one problem after another since. We signed Mom up for services and it started off ok, and lead to her care givers sending her to the hospital multiple times. As it turns out, her care giver noticed Mom’s stools were darker then they should be indicating blood in them, but did not share that with the paramedics until the 2nd time in one week they were called, after Mom passed out.. It should have been mentioned the first time they were called. Then as the paramedics are taking Mom out on a stretcher to the hospital, my arrives to this heartbreaking situation and the nurse on site tells my sister, your Mom can’t come back, she needs to much care. Seriously, awful timing. Not enough to feel run over by a truck but then the nurse puts it in reverse and runs her over again. Fortunately the hospital had folks to help us navigate the next steps. As is, I would not recommend Walker. Without COVID, I don’t know what I would say.

The added benefit at Walker Methodist is that they have private rooms. They have a waiting list. The staff is friendly and they offer options. The room sizes are great. They have a screened-in porch on the second floor. On the first floor, they have a secured walking path.

Memory Care
June 29, 2019

I was very impressed with Westwood Ridge, but what really mattered to me is that I'll be able to enter as an independent living resident, with the option to add assisted living components as needed in the future, without moving to a different apartment. I've been living in a townhouse for 15 years and am looking for a place without stairs, with flexible living options, and, most importantly, without the need to move again. This was my first visit, but it will take something extraordinary for me to end up somewhere else.

My Parent's are Home

My family and I chose this community for my parents after looking at the reviews and A place for Mom helped a lot. The caregivers are exceptional and so caring. The food is great. They have lots of activities like on Thursdays at 3 its popcorn time my dad loves popcorn. They drive them to their appointments which is a big help for us. They have walking paths behind there and patios to sit on. Everything is always clean and kept up. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family which I have already done.

Satisfied With This Community

It has been a transition for me with my move to this community. After living in your home next to your loves one, and neighbors. It can be hard to adjust to a whole new living environment. However this is a good facility, and I'am satisfied with it. Everyone has been kind, and welcoming. The staff is helpful whenever needed. It has been a good experience so far. The only thing I would recommend, is that when you move into one of these facility's, I feel it is best to move in with a love one. It can make the transition a lot easier. Overall I'am well in this community, and I would recommend it.
