The facility is absolutely stunning. It's modern and clean. The staff is absolutely wonderful. It is truly a whole other level of senior living. The apartments are spacious. You can get full kitchens as well as two bedrooms. I would highly recommend the Wingate family to anyone.

Have had a very good experience with a family member in the memory care unit at the Residences for well over a year. The staff are excellent, engaged, respectful and friendly to residents and their family and friends. They have made big efforts to provide appropriate activities and care for individuals with different needs, and adjust when their needs change. Most important, when we have had concerns, the administrators and staff have responded immediately, and have done their best to try to put changes into effect. Except for about a month when the food service changed, the food has been very good There are options for famiies to have meals in the memory care dining room, or in the main dining room. The common spaces are lovely with a lot of light, and the rooms are quite nice. No place is perfect, and not every place is appropriate for everyone, but we have been satisfied overall that we made a good choice.

You will be spending lots of money - so ask many questions. Understand exactly what services your family member will receive. If there is anything required that falls outside of the "social model" of assisted living - you will be asked to provide a private aid - which is very expensive. Drop in unannounced - often memory care residents are planted in front of the TV. Staff is not proactive - often gathered chatting when they should be tending to residents. Personal belongings disappear - keep a close watch. It is a very pretty place - but looks aren't everything. Often do not follow-through on what is promised, from diet to basic aspects of care plans. If you think that your family member will need nursing care at any point - be sure to read reviews for the related skilled nursing facility - they are horrendous & have been for years......the same company runs both facilities.

Do your homework - speak with the families of residents. It looks pretty - but what care is provided? Constantly have new staff - many of whom stand around until they are specifically asked to do something - no consistency. Care plans are not adhered to.....though mgmt is repeatedly reminded. You need to show up repeatedly to see what is going on and push to have things taken care of. Watch your loved one's belongings, they disappear.

Response from The Wingate Residences of Needham & One Wingate Way
November 11, 2015We welcome all prospective residents and families to come to us with questions about choosing a community and are happy to refer you to current residents as you make a decision about what's best for you and your loved ones.
For my mom, they have done an exceptional job since she is suffering from dementia. Exceptionally good at getting them up and active and engaging them with the other residents. So my mother is very, very comfortable there. The nursing care has been exceptional.

Very nice! Quiet and clean, nice staff. I saw two studio apartments -- one had a not-so-great view, the other was fine. Free coffee, tea, and snacks for residents on every floor in the lounges, a nice touch. And a pool table too! The property abuts a wooded area, so there is lots of greenery around. When I left, I heard some residents complaining about the food :(

Response from The Wingate Residences of Needham & One Wingate Way
October 16, 2015Currently we are transitioning our dining services from a contract entity to our own Wingate Dining Service Program. We are improving our operations every day and our goal is to be a five star dining program.
The owner is amazing, like a dementia-whisperer and we considered her family, as she did with my family and my father. There was not a person, a drug or an approach that could calm down my dad the way she was able to. She was nothing but gentle, loving and calm, and was flawless in getting my dad to do things the hospitals couldn't such as simply getting him up and around or to the bathroom. She also makes fresh juice, wonderful sandwiches, all homemade meals. The place as well as my father were always impeccably clean. I would never hesitate to recommend Brighter Days to anyone with a family member who doesn't need as many activities.

Very nice common areas and a variety of activities. The walking corridor with a view of nature is also very nice . The space is safe without feeling too confining .

The Residence at Wingate was chosen for our Mother’s new home after much research and many visits to senior communities. She had lived in and owned her own home for over sixty years. Her decision to sell her home and relocate into an independent senior residence was made because she wanted an easier life style with fewer responsibilities. She wanted a place that felt like home, wide spacious corridors, an apartment where she could bring her favorite furniture pieces, full dining and an indoor garage in a convenient location for shopping and of course so her children and grandchildren could easily visit. Wingate met all of her criteria’s. It’s nestled behind one of Needham’s prime shopping and dining areas right off a main highway. It’s an oasis all of its own. The independent community at Wingate is a lovely building surrounded by exquisite landscaping. It’s adorned with comfy outside furnishings, fire pits and pergolas. Inside the Residence is as gorgeous as the outside. Open spacious foyers lead into large sitting rooms with fireplaces. The feel is very much like a home. The décor is modern which compliments the openness of the rooms. The rooms and halls are open to the outside with many windows allowing the sun to filter through all of the areas. The feel of the outside is brought in and the feel and warmth of the inside is brought out. The Residence at Wingate is bright and cheery which provides a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s like living in a 5 star apartment complex. The dining at Wingate is similar to a country club. The food is excellent and it also provides the residence with a chance to socialize. The staff is also very professional, warm, inviting and caring. There are many activities provided for the residents throughout the day. They have a gym with a trainer and physical therapist to assist while exercising and to instruct classes. They provide a bus service to various shopping locations and bring the residence on outings. They have a full time nurse in house and also provide weekly house cleaning. Our Mother is extremely happy at The Residence at Wingate. As a family we are pleased because they make an effort to welcome you and invite you to become a part of the community. They provide the residents with a private dining room you can reserve for entertaining your friends and family. The Residence at Wingate is a vibrant family oriented senior community that we are happy to call my Mother’s new home. Thank you to all at Wingate, The Barrett family

There are two sections of The Residences at Wingate: the nursing home and the memory care unit. The memory care unit has been great, but not the nursing home. (As such, the ratings here reflect an average of the two, with the memory care unit having a higher rating in each category.) The nursing home: My mom was there for three weeks, and the care was horrendous. They did not bathe or clean her. On three occasions we came to visit her and she was wrapped up in a bed sheet on a wheelchair and could not move. Memory care unit: Very good. The staff is very attentive, very patient, loving, caring, and gentle.

My Aunt and Uncle are residents and they're happy with everything except the food service which is awful. We've been there dining several times and it takes an hour and a half to get through a meal because of the wait. The staff are not properly trained and work inefficiently. We have spoken to the management more than once and nothing has changed. In fact it has interfered with some of their health appt's. One time we had to keep the VNA waiting 30 mins in order to get our food. The rent is too high to have such a basic service be so bad. Perhaps they should pay a little more for qualified staff

Our experience with them was only a short one, but we really loved The Residences at Wingate! It was a nice looking place, and every person on the staff was lovely, kind, and professional. They're just uniformly great people, from the administration down to the aides.

We have had a great two week beginning with our Dad here in the Memory Care community. He seems to be transitioning well with the help of a wonderful caring and supportive staff. They have all been great in helping us navigate this foreign territory, from moving in to finding a doctor, and dealing with health insurance issues. They not only look to serve the new resident but the whole family in this new stage of life that is very emotionally charged.
