Response from Sunrise of Edina
February 1, 2024We are so glad, Roxanne, that you shared such a wonderful story about how Sunrise of Edina has helped you and your loved one. Thank you for taking the time to share this heart-warming message. – The Sunrise Team
I was informed by a friend that the temperature on the first floor is 60° in the winter months and the management can’t get the temperature up anymore, because the front door is opening throughout the day. For the cost of living here, you’d think that they would take better care of their residents. I guess I’ll have to bring this up with local media. Maybe that will help. The resident complained her room was too cold and they did give her a space heater to use. Common areas should be kept warm to at least 70°!

December 1, 2023Hi Jeff, We take your experience at Sunrise of Edina very seriously and would like to review this matter closer. Please contact info@sunriseseniorliving.com so we can promptly review and address these concerns. – The Sunrise Team
Overall good. The food is good and the staff very professional and friendly. The main activities are fantastic live music every week. They have trouble being patient centric especially with those folks who need a hoyer...only certain times they will lay them down for a nap. If I am not there or if I did not have a companion for my mom they would let her sleep from 1 to 4 every afternoon. Not a whole lot of interaction or engagement between staff and those at end stage dementia. They lost the nursing dr. About a month a go and nursing is not as good.

November 17, 2023Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Edina and the dedicated care givers and team members. We are passionate about our community and always enjoy hearing the many beautiful stories about our residents and/or team members. We appreciate your feedback regarding the interaction and engagement with our care team and will work on ways to improve.
My brother's comment has been: we should have moved mom here a year ago (based on decline in quality of care after [name removed] took over the [removed]). Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend Sunrise of Edina to other families looking for a place for their loved ones.

All around it's nice, accommodations, dining area, and staff. We picked this community, because it is close by me. My experience has been pretty good.

The staff members at Sunrise of Edina are very very friendly and for the residents who want to participate in the activities - they have some nice things going on. However even with the staff being really nice they could use more training when it comes to overall quality of care - especially when handling those who have catheters.

Nice, classy facility. Fits in as more a step down from a skilled nursing facility versus step up from independent living. For someone who needs higher level of care but still wants to be out with people and engaging, a great fit. Had confidence that they could have handled my mother-in-law's needs up to end-of-life. Showing signs of wear and staffing shortages. Sales guy was awesome and made it clear that his goal was full education about options and their strengths, not just closing a deal. No maintenance person for a few months before I visited and that made things look more run-down than I was fully comfortable with.
Professional and mature senior staff, junior staff has been friendly, patient, and supportive in the face of my wife's short term memory issues and ongoing frustration with her new medical issues. I would recommend Sunrise of Edina to others looking.

Overall started out as a 4 but ended as a 1. Our loved one has spent 3 months there. She had PT the first month to improve her mobility. After therapy ended the staff did nothing to keep her moving. No inclusion in activities. When we moved her after 3 months she couldn't even stand on her own. They told her to go in her brief when she had to urinate. Total loss of dignity.

All of their staff members have to be vaccinated and boosted which to us was tremendous and extremely important. We do like how the staff members are always checking up on the residents. They had a covid outbreak which they got under control and to us that was very impressive. The meals and dining service at times can be hit or miss - it does tend to be a lot of pasta and canned sauces with not a lot of vegetables.

January 9, 2023Hi Customer, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Edina and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
Sunrise is a very friendly place, the people are great. I'm usually here about 5 days a week visiting so I know many people. I also like that's is a smaller footprint of a building than some of the very large places. It's very clean also. They could have more activities, if that's important to a person it might be something you consider.

November 4, 2022Hi Jill, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Edina and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
My mom really enjoys it, but they are so understaffed and they don't follow through. For example: they tried to give my mom someone else's medications and we caught it, they were looking at the wrong person. After two months they tried to raise her rate by [price removed] and it took them a couple of months to schedule a meeting. They said they'd send us stuff regarding the price increase and they didn't. They also forgot to put her on the shower schedule and we had to bring it to their attention after 6 weeks. They have very poor communication. I would like to see the staff to follow through on what they say, return phone calls, and overall more communication.

August 10, 2022Hello customer, Allow us to take a closer look at this for you. Please contact us at information@sunriseseniorliving.com with your information so we're able to best assist you. Thank you.- The Sunrise Team
Some employees were good, but were fired or left because of awful management. They are unorganized, make mistakes with meds frequently, don't do laundry when you're paying for them to (you might wait weeks), don't give baths when you're paying for them to, don't respect residents' needs or wishes. Personal items are at high risk of disappearing, with no accountability by Sunrise. This place is really bad and my brother had a lot of bad experiences there. I would never recommend it.

This has been a good experience for us so far. The community is having some staff turnover; however, they are working through it. The staff communication with the family is pretty good if we have questions over our loved one. It would be nice to see better personal care such as to remember the resident's glasses and to place them on the resident's face.

June 29, 2022Hi Customer, It is delightful to hear that you have been satisfied with the personalized support provided to your loved one by Sunrise of Edina. Our team members share a common goal of enriching every resident’s life by carefully listening to their needs and always delivering the very best. Thank you! – The Sunrise Team
The sales staff at Sunrise of Edina were not very good with communication or follow up after the tour and we just felt they were a little flaky. We did really really like this facility, but the downfall for us was it did not have a gym and my loved one like to workout once or twice a day. They also only had studios available and we were looking for something bigger than that.

The workers really stood out to us, just from the tour we saw them all interacting with the residents, you could tell they actually liked coming to work and seeing their residents. We do like the smaller scale of the community it worked out really well for our loved one given their dementia state, and even after his passing the staff were still there for our family and just super friendly. They tried their best given the covid limitations to keep the residents active and busy. It is a very good value for the money.

This community is good for someone that was more ill and less independent. It was not what we were looking for.
After looking into many different facilities, Sunrise of Edina was the one that we all liked the best. I would definitely recommend the facility to others looking.

Our family had an in person tour and it was a big negative right away. The staff members were very nice but the community itself was very old and run down. It was musty and dark inside, and other communities we were touring were very bright and welcoming feeling.
