The beautiful home at Rancho Santa Fe Villa was always kept spotless and clean. Located in an exclusive residential community, it was a very clean facility at all times. The staff was very caring and friendly, taking a personal interest in my mother and our family. My mother required more personalized services than most other patients due to her memory issues and her need for people to talk to. The staff outsourced almost all medical services, focusing the onsite staff on crucial residential, non-medical care. For major holidays like Thanksgiving, RSFV invited family for special meals. It was festively decorated for Christmas. A piano player was brought in occasionally for the limited number of residents. But those were the only activities we witnessed. The owner took an active role with each of the 4-6 patients and their families. The two full time staff members were highly engaged, caring and industrious. The part-time staff were well-trained and helpful. The only issue we had was an occasional language barrier. The food was sensational. Every meal was customized for each resident. The owner brought specialty foods in for residents. They always provided food my mother specifically enjoyed. We did extensive research on cost and services for my mom. All were pricey, but we felt the personalized services, the limited number of patients, the customized food service, accessibility of staff, location and beauty of the facility created great value for the money.... Staff members are available around-the-clock at Rancho Santa Fe Villa, a memory care facility in San Diego, California. Seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's disease can participate in suitable activities that keep them interested and active. It's a guarded building. Residents at Rancho Santa Fe Villa may be allowed to own a dog or cat, and pet sitting is offered. Before my parents moved into [removed], we toured this complex.

The owner of this facility promised a lot but delivered on very little. My mother was there for 6 months and communication with Ray, the owner, was intermittent. His demeanor is concerning as I did not believe my mother was being left in the best care. I do not believe he screens his caregivers well enough as in the 6 months being there, we saw 5 different individuals. Either he doesn't pay his staff or there are character issues. The grounds have something left to be desired. On the day we looked at the property, things appeared clean and tidy. As months went by, the lack of outdoor maintenance was apparent as it did not look at it had been touched since we initially viewed the property.

My mother has been living at Rancho Santa Fe Villa since 2010. She has always been very well cared as the staff is very kind and responsive to her needs. Also the quality of the meals and snacks are excellent and plentiful. Families will routinely dine with their parents at the home and are made to feel welcome and clearly enjoy the meals. The facility is clean, well maintained and very peaceful. I have been coming to the facility for 10 years, sometimes on very short notice and have always encountered cheerful and helpful staff who are attentive to my mom and her relatives who visit. My mother enjoys the art and crafts as well as music activities. The owner is always quick to contact me if there is a change in her condition or medication and so I never have to worry that I am out of the loop on her daily care and needs. My mom is comfortable and happy at Rancho Santa Fe Villa and I have learned over the years that they the owner and staff are always responsive, caring and reliable as care givers for my mom.

My wife and I have been at this 6 bed assisted living facility for almost 3 years. It is a beautiful home in a prestige area of north San Diego. The home has panoramic views of the rolling hills. Sometimes we see the hot air balloons go by. The facility is clean and tidy. My wife is 83 and I am 88. She is assisted living/memory and I am independent living. She has been in Hospice bedridden with Alzheimer's for 2 years and has to hand fed with pureed food and totally cared for. I'm sure she wouldn't get the care she has here at a larger facility. The caregivers are all friendly and extremely caring. Very nice meals are served 3 times a day. The Director of Activities plays music on the keyboard. Singing makes the residents come alive. He also has taught art painting with acrylics. I have never painted before, now I've painted over 30 pictures on canvas, surfboards, guitars etc. It gives me something to do and keeps my brain active. This is a superior facility compared to other ones I have heard about. On a scale of 1 to 5 I would rate Rancho Santa Fe Villa a 5.

**Review from January 2016** Thank you so much for recommending Rancho Santa Fe Villa. As you might recall, last November I was looking for a Board & Care for my mother. She had been at an Assisted Living facility, but she had become a fall risk and they were no longer able to meet her individual needs. You suggested the Villa and after several visits I decided that was the place for her. While she hasn't been there very long, I am very pleased with her care and treatment. The caregivers are professional, sensitive, and easy for me to work with. The owner, [name removed], is very responsive to my inquiries and requests. The facility itself is large, has a great view and is ideal for its purpose. The Villa is more like a home and less like an institution. Whenever you have to find accommodations for a family member, you always worry about whether or not you have made a good choice. I am pleased that I have made a good choice, that I can rest again and that my mother is being well cared for.

**Review from January 2010** I wanted to let you know how pleased I am with the placement at Rancho Santa Fe Villa. I am extremely impressed with the care and attention to detail that has been extended to my mother. [Name removed] has worked very hard to address all my concerns about my mother's care. He has attended to every detail to make my mother feel comfortable and at home. I feel confident that her medications and diet are being organized and managed in accordance with her physician's requirements. [Name removed] (the caregiver) is not only a great cook, but a caring, giving, warm person. [Name removed]'s sweet demeanor, patience, and kindness are very comforting to my mother. Consequently, my mother is adjusting quite well. Her appetite has improved and she is spending more time in the living room socializing. We have had her in two assisted facilities in the past and were never satisfied with her level of care. In the other facilities, she spent the majority of the time by herself napping in her room. Because of the nurturing environment, her outlook and attitude have definitely taken a positive turn. The home is beautiful with breath-taking views and a luxurious ambiance. We feel very lucky to have placed her at the Rancho Santa Fe Villa. Finally, we are able to relax and feel comfortable with my mother's care. Thank you so much for your recommendation. I would recommend Rancho Santa Fe Villa to anyone who is looking for a beautiful facility with a caring, attentive staff.

I just want to let you know how tremendous [name removed] and his staff have been, at Rancho Santa Fe Villa. My dear friend, [name removed], has had the best care from all of them. She has been at Rancho Santa Fe Villa for three months now. Her health is better than it has been in years. She is eating very nutritious and tasty food. She is kept comfortable and clean and is visited so often by [name removed] and his staff. She has been bedridden for quite some time and they have done everything they could to keep her occupied and comfortable. [Name removed] has had visits from many different people who are employed by Rancho Santa Fe Villa to keep the residents entertained and occupied. They have music and painting, etc. [Name removed] doesn't participate in everything but always enjoys a chat with someone. She has a Chaplain, nurse, and social worker visit. [Name removed] has also stopped in. Her room is beautiful and airy. It is kept very clean and she is surrounded by her things. [Name removed] and his staff are so good at caring for my friend and the other residents seem just as content and cared for. The entire house is so beautiful and "lived in." The grounds are gorgeous and [name removed] enjoys sitting outside in a wheelchair and enjoying the sun and beauty of the hills. I cannot say enough about the responsible care, nutritious and delicious food, cleanliness and overall thoughtfulness of [name removed] and his staff at Rancho Santa Fe Villa. I'm not sure I would have made it through [name removed]'s transition without [name removed] at my side through the entire ordeal. He went above and beyond what was expected. I will always appreciate his help, his listening skills and knowledge of elderly people and their needs during such an adjustment time. I would recommend Rancho Santa Fe Villa to anyone with a loved one who needs Tender Loving Care. [Name removed] and his staff are like my family now. I know [name removed] is in good hands and I am able to talk to her anytime and I am always welcome at Rancho Santa Fe Villa. Thank you for introducing me to [name removed]. He is one in a million and I am so glad my dear friend is in a place where neither of us have to worry about her care.

My mother just turned 97 and has been a guest at Rancho Santa Fe Villa for nearly four years. She is very happy there and, despite her advancing dementia and overall frailty, she gets along very well. The caregiving staff are very attentive to her and provide her with a very high level of care and compassion. Meals are plentiful, healthful and of a very high quality. Medical needs are provided as needed and appear to be quite professional. [Name removed] is a very attentive administrator always keeping the needs and wishes of the guests in the forefront. He keeps me apprised of ongoing details and I’m very comfortable having him in charge of my mothers care. I highly recommend Rancho Santa Fe Villa as a full service care facility.

A Place for Mom has scored Rancho Santa Fe Villa 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
