My mom passed away last week. This facility was great. Professional, efficient, warm, kind, caring, great communication. And well....I just sent them over 300 Mrs. Field's cookies and brownies and I wish I could give them all a spa day. I made friends there and so did mom. And I think Memory Care is most challenging. My mom was there 3 days, then fell. They charged me about $[removed] for the move-in fee and for her to sleep there and for them to keep her things while she was in the hospital. They wanted to charge me 30 days more for notice, but they waived the fee. As an Assisted Living Facility, it seems like a 5. As a memory care facility, a 3 (they are under staffed on the memory floor). Would not recommend Memory Care if your family member is mobile/ active. Many of the memory residents were confined to a wheelchair so they did not have issues. Otherwise, it's a beautiful place and staff was nice but they did not watch out for my mom.

It's very expensive but not worth the money. The sales staff is amazing but once you buy in, the care and admin staff are not nearly as friendly.

February 8, 2023Hi Customer, We’re sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience. We care deeply about the safety and well-being of our residents and staff. Please contact us at information@sunriseseniorliving.com so that we can learn more. –The Sunrise Team
This community has the residents and their families provide all furniture for their room like, table, chairs, bed, recliner and etc. When you walk in, on the first floor is where the assisted living activities are held which seems to be very full of life and interactive, however when visiting the memory unit is more dual and lifeless. I think their could be more activities for the memory care unit throughout the month and I have had to hire a caregiver as well come in 2 days a week to make sure my loved one is getting the care they deserves. I don't think it is a bad place but it was the best place that we could find for our loved one. The staff could take more time to spend with my loved one and help them. The meals served is not enough food for the average person, a lot of the residents do not want to eat their food and I've seen residents without food. They've left residents in the living room during meal times and when reminded they go get them but it is very upsetting to see. I hope this issue is taken care of soon. I've seen clothing that is not owned by my loved ones end up in loved one's closet and I've seen my loved ones clothing on other residents. The care received is very uneven according to the staff, however when the more experienced staff is present the quality of staff goes up. I've seen amazing afternoon's when the experience caregivers interacting with the residents and calling them by their first names, and involving everyone on the unit and I've seen those residents brighten up because of those caregivers.

Response from Ivy Park at Playa Vista
November 9, 2022Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Playa Vista. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review!
I just LOVE the staff - they are fantastic. They're friendly and have great follow-through. They provide great care. The facility was clean overall. The only negative thing I have to say is the kitchen area was a little gross - the kitchen and dining area were not appealing. But otherwise, everything was great in the memory care unit.

November 4, 2022Hi Kari, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Playa Vista and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
This is a high end assisted living community, here at Sunrise. I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The staff seem to be very good at communicating with us when the family has questions and are responsive at answering our questions. There are activities for the residents to participate in. There are three meals a day served and choices for the residents to choose from.

This community was not as well managed as the choice that we were looking at for my loved one. I did not feel like they were the match that we were looking for.
This community was very good it was just not a good cultural fit for my loved one.
Everyone is nice, but I felt like the sales team was ultra nice in the beginning. Then once we actually put our loved one in the home, the level of communication went down, and we were kind of left in the dark a little. They're still friendly. They're just not providing enough progress reports about what's going on. The facility itself and our loved one's room have been pretty clean the times that we've gone. I feel they're not as attentive as they said they were going to be. Our loved one would call our different family members back to back to back for hours, to the point that we had to block her, for things like she couldn't get her TV to work. But if they were checking on her regularly, I would think surely they would have fixed it for her. Although she has dementia, so I'm not sure if she knew she coulda ask them for help. I think for what we pay, it's too much. Our loved one is alone and by herself a lot, but if your loved one is more active, it might be a better value.

My mother has recently made the move into this community and so far things are going well for her. The staff have been helpful to all of her needs and I am comfortable with the care she has been receiving. She has had no problems with the meals and enjoys activities from time to time with the other residents. Overall it has been a pleasant experience and we would recommend it to anyone.

This community was clean and the people we met were nice. This community is a little pricier than what we were looking for. The rooms were small and they did not have a nice outdoor area. This community is near the beach.

Things are going well so far at this community. My loved one is slowly starting to adjust to living here. The staff are on top of things as they are monitoring my loved one and encouraging them to participate in some of the daily activities. They are easy to communicate with and I feel she is safe here. The food tastes ok and they do work with residents dietary needs. Her room is beautiful and the community is clean.

The Sunrise of Playa Vista was very nice as well. Like the other Sunrise's that I toured, it had a very nice floor plan and was decorated very nicely. They just needed more things going on, more residents outside interacting and activities going on.

Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anyone. There have been 5 Executive Directors in the last 4 years my mother in law has lived there! This community is managed poorly from the corporate level and with the exception of a few people, the staff is in constant turnover. Food quality is not good as chef's keep leaving Sunrise. Elevators are constantly broken and the fire department is always over to "free" either a resident or guest from the elevators. Not enough staff especially after hours to even open the door when a resident returns after 8 pm from an outing with family. It's clear that the organization is not willing to invest in the property or it's staff yet Sunrise keeps raising the rates every year. They are not interested in your loved ones...just your loved one's check!
