My mom has been disappointed in the food. Too bland, not organic and too much chicken As for activities, sadly the turnover has impacted the activities as well as mechanical and other issues with the van. This has been a real ongoing challenge

Brookdale’s main concern is squeezing as much money out of its residence and their families as possible. My father’s rent has increased 20% in just over a year even though we were assured prior to moving in that increases would be no more than 7% annually. And the management team uses all sorts of deceptive practices to hide their outrageous price hikes. I do not recommend this facility and wish I had never brought my father here.

Response from Brookdale West Seattle
February 6, 2023Thank you for choosing Brookdale and taking the time to share your feedback. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and encourage you to contact our management team.
This is the second year in a row that they have raised the rent over $500 per month. They already price gouge elderly people, but now they are trying to make up lost revenue from residents that moved out during the pandemic by raising the remaining resident's rent at an absurd rate! My father's rent is now $4,560 per month for independent living for a one bedroom, which means he receives no help, other than two meals per day. With my father having dementia he cannot even afford to get the help or care that he needs while living here. Unless you are very wealthy, I don't recommend this facility. You can find equal or better care at more reasonable prices from other living facilities in or near West Seattle. It seems this company's only concern is making money, regardless of whether or not their residents can afford it. I recommend going on indeed.com and reading reviews from their own employees, as well as Consumer Reports and the Better Business Bureau.

We had a great experience in the beginning but as soon as we signed and they moved in, there was no orientation and no communication. Their business negations have a lot to be desired. We just got a notice that the price is going way up and they have only been here for a few months. It is not clear to us how often they are able to raise the prices so we are starting to look elsewhere.

There are a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. There aren't a lot of cliques, and there are more women than men here. It is a friendly atmosphere. The food is pretty good. They have transportation, but it is very limited and won't work for everybody. The Habit and other food locations are close by.

We toured Brookdale and it seemed like a great facility. We did not choose it because it was too big for our liking and the location was further from family.
They're very friendly. I think the staff is good about getting to know each resident. The food is good. They do a pretty good job to offer a variety of dishes, and the flavor profile and preparation is good. They also offer lots of alternative choices, more per day than I've seen at other places. As far as the extra care services, I feel like you have to be extra vigilant to make sure your loved one's care plan is implemented the way you want it to be. Consistency has been lacking lately. Sometimes it's been difficult to get in contact with the overseeing nurse to rectify any issues. Right now I'm not even getting a response from her. It might have something to do with the fact that they haven't had an active director as of the last couple of weeks. But nevertheless, I've been struggling because there's no alternative contact person.

I had a very productive and helpful conversation with [name removed] at Brookdale. She answered many questions for me and I feel I can call her and ask more if I need to. We haven't visited yet, but I feel like we may not need to given how [name removed] was able to explain so much.

My dad is fine we are happy with the staff and experience so far. All experiences after one month are fine except for the only negative experience which was related to the wheel chair. I am not familiar with wheel chairs and bought a transport one. After my dad was living there for 2 weeks they told him suddenly that wheel chair was too hard to push. They had his meal brought up to his room because of that. I resolved this problem by replacing the transport wheel chair with a standard one. They could have gave us a few days before bringing his meals to his room. For the most part he likes the meals, which is restaurant style. He has tried some activities but has not taken full advantage. The staff there is very professional and helpful. For example I suggested a Super Bowl watching party and they then proceeded to set that up - very nice. The community has a very nice, pleasant atmosphere and it looks nearly brand new. They offer transportation within their radius. I would recommend them to family and friends because they are confident with their care.

The Brookdale West Seattle was fine. The reason we did not chose them was because when we toured, the room that they had available was on the assisted living side and we wanted to be in the independant living side. Also, it had an institutional feel to it.

The staff at the Brookdale have been great to my mother. They are very caring and accommodating, everyone knows everyone's name. So, if my mother is walking down the hall, they will greet her by her first name. The meals are good, but it is institutional food since they have to cook for so many people. She wishes they had more options for vegetables. My mother had a stomach ache on Christmas eve so she called to see if they could deliver her some medicine. The guy that usually goes was home with his family but he actually left his family on Christmas eve and took my mother the medicine and didn't charge it to her. They truly are amazing people and I am happy that I can sleep at night knowing she is being well taken care of.

I toured a number of places before knowing this was the right one for my dad. So far I'm really happy that we've placed him at Brookdale of West Seattle Of all the places I toured, Brookdale facilities were at the top of my list so would recommend touring and of them. The staff are caring, know the residents and their families and always make us feel welcome.

I am currently happily living at Brookdale West Seattle. They do an excellent job of taking care of me as well as my cat when I have had to leave her with them. They respond very well to all of my questions and suggestions, more than I would have expected. The food is very good as well. I am very pleased to live here.

I have been a resident here for a little bit, and it is well worth the money. Staff will go out of their way to entertain the us, and the food is also very good. The community is well worth what I am paying, in fact it is cheaper than the last place I lived. I am very happy and content here.

The only thing I would like to see in terms of improvement would be to have more variety of activities. Other than that they have been great. Everyone I have come in contact there has been super friendly and helpful. The main thing that my dad loves and raves about every day is the food.

This is a beautiful retirement community! They offer the care my mom needs in the future. The apartments were spacious and the price was competative and in most cases less than the other places I've looked at. I felt like my mom would be safe and well taken care of. We ate lunch and the food was fantastic, the staff was friendly and really paid attention to what my mom needed. This place has move to the top of our list!

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale West Seattle 6.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
