Review for Brookdale North Scottsdale

I would say that, like everywhere else, Brookdale is understaffed and people are overworked but trying their best to keep up. I believe marketing people should be more truthful about that as promises were oversold. Every employee works hard but you can tell they are short staffed and that some new employees are still learning their jobs. My parents had lived in Scottsdale before, so thought they would enjoy returning. Showers seemed safer than other places. Central air and heat, some places had floor units that were noisy and hearing aides would pick that up and be a droning sound in their ears. Some places had pretty dated looking cupboards, countertops, etc. Brookdale was pretty close to me and my sister.... Read more

Over charge and under staffed

Based on the experience we have had so far with Brookdale North Scottsdale community is that they are understaffed and coldly provide services to residents in need. The staff was stressed and over worked. I was told that they would customize care based on the needs of the resident. They meticulously documented these for my dad, and then charge me for them - and then they didn't perform them. They stress understaffed and over charge. My beloved father passed away within 15 days of moving in

Disappointed

I regret ever choosing Brookdale North Scottsdale. The sales guy was over the top amazing and once we were in there, nothing was what was promised. I had a terrible experience since I moved my loved one in there. They had so much turnover and for awhile I didn't think they would make it. So many people moved out. I can't move my loved one again so they are stuck there. Recently, they had another turnover and it looks like they are making changes. The problem is they raised the rent on the first of the year when they had no right with the short staff, safety problems, etc. Now they are doing better but just in time for another raise in 5 months. It has been rough but I'm hoping for permanent changes with big improvements. I can see they are doing things that should have been done long ago!

Currently high turnover and concerning

The first year my mom was there I would have given almost all 5's. But then they changed both leadership and staff what felt like every other week. The care definitely devolved and they got way understaffed. During the week before my mom's death. Someone cut her hand badly (she was in memory care and no access to be able to do to her self). I believe it was a defensive wound as they stole her ring which was only on her finger still because it was impossible to get off due to RA and knuckle changes. She hadn't been able to get it off in years. It was really upsetting and I know it happened there because she had it on in a picture there and then not the night I had to take her to the hospital. She had not left in between. It felt like a very hurtful thing to our family as she was dying and had no memory to tell me what happened. Brookdale did an investigation but couldn't tell me who did it. The house manager was amazing and I loved many of the long term staff. Those that were long term loved my mom well. I was very happy the first year and would have highly recommended then but not now.

This Place Literally Stinks

My father moved into a room with a strong sewer smell. I was told that this was due to the apartment being empty and that the smell would dissipate. It did not go away. I found out that they had been lying to me. After I looked into moving my father from Brookdale, I was told that the building was old and that the smell would Never go away.

Buyer Beware-Go Past and Get Into The Community Deeper Than The Sales Person, and Ask Lots of Questions

All the promises the sales team gave the family didn't come true and the community doesn't follow through with. They sales team lied to get us through the door, once my loved one moved in the staff aren't involved with the family. The family has to continually follow up with the staff about the concerns and questions about the staff. I just wish there was one day I could visit my loved one and not be angry about something here. I have heard all the residents complain about the food when I have visited. My loved one has requested the family bring in food from restaurants around town because the food is so bad. My loved one would prefer to eat door dash food in their apartment than be in the dining room. The activities are held on the second floor and there are several activities for the residents to participate in. I have found the community is trying to get more money out of the family any way they can on additional care services that aren't needed.
