We are so grateful for Brookdale! My step father is very happy there and is well taken care of by the sweet staff. He loves the courtyard and particularly enjoys the activities planned by the staff. I appreciate the routine he is provided and the communication the staff has with us concerning his care. We are content knowing he is settled safe and happy.

My grandmother was at a plethora of homes and when she found brookdale, she felt at home. Why? The staff goes above and beyond, even going so far to bring my grandma to our home using their private shuttle on Christmas in the rain and stayed with her during our Christmas meal. I’ve never been happier with the care here and the staff make it a place she can call home.

I toured Brookdale Lake Highlands, and the facility was very old & looked old as well. When talking to some of the residents it seemed like they weren't as happy, they seemed kind of down. Th staff wasn't as nice either. The guy who showed us around was awesome; but other staff we met weren't as friendly.
Response from Brookdale Lake Highlands
June 29, 2022We appreciate you taking the time to visit and share your feedback. We are committed to quality service and care and will review your feedback with our management team.
They are severely understaffed at this community. They are not able to meet the needs of the residents due to this shortage. Several of the staff are angry at the people that they are taken care of. Specifically the caregivers not the office personnel. They have activities like bingo, trivia and more for the residents to do to stay busy. They also have work out classes for the residents. I feel like this community is really for independent living and not necessarily assisted living.

Response from Brookdale Lake Highlands
March 14, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and hope you will contact our management team to further discuss.
The friendliness of the staff members really stood out to us in the beginning, they are great. Their courtyard is big and offers a nice outdoor space for everyone. From our understanding, during this time the community has been kept clean, we have not been able to visit since March. However at that point this community was very clean. As far as the activities go they seem to be great and the food they serve is really good.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!! My father came here last October he was placed in the memory care unit, not the nice pictures you see out front , he had a tiny space in a shared room. The staff would pull him up by his arms ripping his skin , he had a heart attack there a week and a half before he had the the one that killed him there , vomiting constantly in his last few days of life , no one noticed , no one checked , he was just left there ignored , he was a WW2 veteran but because he had Alzhiemers was treated worse than a dog , pass this place up like the plague, this is corporate greed stealing money from the helpless , Texas Dept of Health and Human services has been notified

Response from Brookdale Lake Highlands
April 8, 2019The care and safety of our residents is our top priority, and we are sorry to hear you feel this way. Our management team reached out to the resident's responsible parties and have discussed any concerns they may have had.
Google the bad reviews and class action law suits against this corporation. Run from this company and Brookdale Lake Highlands. My family speaks from horrific experiences.

NEVER NEVER move your relative to this facility! This facility should be shut down and never allowed to accept another resident. My family moved a relative to Brookdale Lake Highlands over a year ago and from the time the resident moved in, there has been trouble every single week to get basic services completed such as consistent hand washing, showers on scheduled days, consistent toileting, consistent and proper medicine dispensing, etc. And, ironically, when they don't deliver the basics, they will try to tell you that your loved one has declined and the personal service rate must be increased to care for that relative. It's all B.S. and it's a racket. This facility is run on skeleton staff all the time and they pay their staff less than other assisted living centers so that their Executive Director and Health and Wellness Director can get their bonus. The several amazing aids who manage to stay and care deeply about the residents are so over-worked and exhausted like exhausted race horses who cannot get it done. It's pathetic and sad for them and for the residents. Especially beware if the Executive Director or Health and Wellness Director tells you that your family member is too hard to handle (hmm) and must have constant sitters all day or around the clock and you know better. This is a way to sky rocket the bill and is a threatening way of blackmailing your family that if you do not comply, your relative will be asked to leave. The Executive Director will say whatever she needs to say to get you to move in and then will deny it later when you expect those promises to get delivered. Then, when you complain about lack of basic services getting done or lack of follow through or broken promises, the ED and upper management will retaliate. If the Executive Director asks you to disclose your financial situation, never ever divulge any financial data especially if you will need a medicaid sponsored program in the future that the ED agreed to help your family member with and that family member is on a "spend down." They will bait you to spend down with them then create a "reason" to try to get you to move out when your loved one has spent down his or her savings. They also allowed a resident who fell early one morning to lie on the floor for more than 15 minutes while she pushed the emergency button. Her relative moved her out ASAP and she went into emergency orthopedic surgery after that incident. Google all the gazillion complaints against this company in general and in Dallas as well as google the class action law suites in CA and FL against this outfit. My family wishes it had found all the horrific reviews first and they would never have looked twice at this facility much less have moved their relative there. Run, run, run, and never move your loved one here or give these crooks a dime.

The Brookdale Lake Highlands memory care unit is awesome! The entire staff takes personal interest and gives loving care to every resident. My mom is quite happy and I am very grateful to her Guardian Angels and all the support they give me. The facilities are nice also. I would highly recommend this amazing team and property.

I found this place very clean and home like. They have a great security system to keep residents inside the community in both assisted living and memory care. Their outside area in assisted living is amazing and peaceful. The memory care has an outside garden area that residents in memory care can use. I liked this facility for its homey feeling.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Lake Highlands 9.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
